Structural Joinery Milestones
Over the last few months, work has been consistently progressing with Ceiba´s interior. This update takes a moment to celebrate the many crucial milestones that have been passed. The hanging knees, blocking, and illustrious accommodation deck are all being installed and the final picture of how Ceiba will look when she hits the water is clearer than ever.
The tween deck is currently full of knees ready to be installed. These pieces will add support between the frames and the main deck and mitigate any stress felt by crashing waves once on the water.
Blocking has been an ongoing task for the last year or so. As illustrated by Lenny in the picture below, it is the process of cutting and installing perfectly sized blocks to close gaps between the frames. These blocks will ensure that one section of the ship is airtight to another. The reason for doing such a monotonous task is to ensure that any potential leak in one section of the ship, such as the engine room, cannot possibly flood the cargo decks.
In the picture below, you can see the completed timber framing of our aft accommodation deck. This deck structure will have the Captain´s quarters, an area for the Chief Mate, as well as bunks for future passengers. As Ceiba gets closer to completion, the decks and doors will be added to make this a functioning space.
Next up, exterior planking.
